Club History

Claremorris AFC was founded in 1985 by a group of local soccer enthusiasts. They entered a junior team in the Mayo League and played their games at The Racecourse Grounds, Claremorris, Co. Mayo. At that stage their pitch and grounds were nothing more than a field with two goalposts. As the time went on, the team started to climb into the higher divisions and enjoyed considerable success along the way.

At this time a decision was taken to try and improve the club’s playing pitch.

The club’s home games were mover to various different locations or wherever a suitable field became available. The club eventually moved back to playing at The Racecourse a few years later, after some development work had taken place, and this has become their home ground.

During the early years of the club, an underage structure was set up to support the needs of the local youth. The results of this structure took sometime to bear fruit, but the club achieved great success with its U-18 team during this time. Many of the particular team went on to play at junior level and indeed represented Mayo at Oscar Traynor level.

Last Season was the most successful in the club’s history fielding 11 teams from Under 12 to Junior, as well as partaking in a number of Under 10 blitzes.
